Modern grain drying complexes require continuous and precise moisture control. Manual sampling or periodic laboratory checks do not allow for a timely response to parameter changes, leading to over-drying of grain, excess fuel consumption, and reduced product quality. The solution is the installation of continuous grain moisture meters that operate directly in the process flow and provide real-time measurements.

We offer turnkey solutions for equipping grain dryers of various types, including conveyor, column, tower, and shaft dryers. The equipment is supplied complete with an electronic control unit and sensors adapted to specific operating conditions. Delivery is available to any country in the world, and service support ensures uninterrupted operation throughout the entire service life.

How Continuous Grain Moisture Meters Are Designed and Operate

The design is based on the microwave dielectric method. The sensor creates an electromagnetic field in the controlled zone through which grain continuously passes. The moisture meter measures the dielectric constant of the material, which is directly related to its water content. This approach ensures high accuracy and does not require the use of radioisotope sources, which simplifies operation and eliminates radiation safety concerns.

The sensor is a durable probe made of stainless steel (e.g., AISI 321 or 12Kh18N10T), resistant to abrasive wear and high temperatures. The electronic unit, which houses all computing components, is located separately, allowing the sensor to be used in the hot zone of the dryer at temperatures up to 145–180 °C.

The moisture measurement range is from 0 to 100%, and the maximum absolute error depends on the moisture level: for example, in the 6–8% range it is ±0.4%, and in the 10–20% range it is ±1.0%. The measurement period does not exceed 1 second, allowing the control system to respond instantly to changes.

Design Variations for Different Types of Dryers

Manufacturers offer several sensor options to ensure maximum efficiency for each type of equipment.

  • For conveyor, column, and tower dryers, a U-shaped probe is used, which is fully immersed in the grain layer. Mounting is done through the dryer wall, ensuring constant contact with the material.

  • For shaft dryers, a sensor is used that is installed in the air duct window and secured with a clamp. This design allows monitoring of grain in the zone of active movement.

  • Universal models with a flat body only 23 mm thick are suitable for installation in any type of dryer and in bins. They create minimal resistance to the flow and guarantee uniform filling of the controlled zone. For grain containing plant residues, an angled body position is recommended so that the flow itself sweeps away stuck debris.

All sensors are equipped with built-in thermistors for instant temperature compensation. Grain temperature is measured without delay, which is critical for calculation accuracy.

Software and Integration

The moisture meters are equipped with two data transmission channels: a 4–20 mA current interface and a digital RS-485 Modbus RTU interface. This allows the equipment to be connected to any automated control systems (APCS) without additional converters.

The built-in software addresses several tasks:

  • verification of measurement reliability and self-diagnostics;

  • remote diagnostics of components and operating modes;

  • archiving and graphing;

  • switching and adjusting calibrations.

Up to eight moisture meters can be connected to one computer, and up to four to a tablet. Specialized software is available for Windows and Android, allowing monitoring from both the operator's workstation and mobile devices.

Calibration and Crop Adaptation

The moisture meters are supplied with ready-made calibrations for 14 types of grain crops. The tables take into account temperature dependencies and are stored in the device memory. If necessary, calibrations can be adjusted to specific conditions or recalculated into volumetric moisture units. This is especially important for enterprises working with multiple crops or variable raw material composition.

Benefits for the Enterprise

  1. Reduced over-drying and fuel savings. Continuous control allows precise adherence to target parameters, avoiding unnecessary heating cycles.

  2. Improved grain quality. Precise compliance with the drying regime preserves food and seed properties.

  3. Process automation. Real-time data is integrated into the APCS, allowing automatic adjustment of burners and fans.

  4. Reliability and durability. Sensors are made of corrosion-resistant steel and are resistant to abrasives and high temperatures.

  5. Remote monitoring and diagnostics. The operator receives a complete picture of the process and can respond to deviations in a timely manner.

Supply and Service Support

We provide a full cycle of work: selection of equipment for a specific dryer, supply, installation, commissioning, and personnel training. The geography of supplies is not limited — the equipment operates successfully in various climatic zones and at enterprises of different scales.

Service support includes consultations on operation, assistance in refining calibrations, and troubleshooting diagnostics. We support the client at every stage so that the system operates stably and delivers real economic returns.
